Local 3005 Becomes First DC37 Local to Vote for NYCERS Divestment

At the September delegate’s meeting, 92% of Local 3005 members in attendance voted in favor of divesting from genocide. This was clearly an issue of immense importance: this specially-called meeting had three times the number of attendees as a typical general meeting. Despite overwhelming support, city workers had to resist — for two hours — leadership’s attempt to stifle voting and suppress democratic rights.

As public health workers at the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene and Office of Chief Medical Examiner, we are outraged at the public health catastrophe and moral scandal perpetrated by Israel in Gaza: flattening of every hospital, destruction of water sanitation facilities, siege creating widespread hunger, and the re-introduction of polio.

Local 3005 members are proud to stand in solidarity with Palestinian labor unions calling to stop arming Israel’s ongoing genocide. This vote makes Local 3005 the first DC37 local to vote in favor of supporting NYCERS divestment.
